Their extension was built on a manhole so the water wasn’t draining away and the kitchen, dining room and the utility room were all decimated by a flash flood in bad weather... As her husband was away with his Army job, Claire and the neighbours set about ripping down the offending extension to reveal the cause of the flood – with the help of local fire-fighters...
They’ve since re-built it, but their house has never been the same since. Claire’s tried to screed the floor in the extension, but it’s too sandy – and resembles a beach. Various other DIY bodges haven’t helped matters – including some over-zealous ripping off of tiles in the kitchen...
Builder Martin Gonzalez and designer Ed Robinson parachute in to the rescue, with some help from Alison... Martin and the builders fit a new floating floor in the extension, and give Claire and Shannon a lesson in the best way of removing tiles... And Ed creates a spectacular makeover of the utility room, using an Alpine photo mural to give a sense of space on one wall...
